About us and our purposes

As a citizens initiative we intend to bring the passionately arguing fractions about the City-Airport Tempelhof to a compromise.

Five weeks before the first popular referendum in Berlin, on April, 27 th, 2008 , considerable polling institutes predict the following results:

The survey data from February 2008:

38 % of the citizen of Berlin are for keeping open Tempelhof in the present function range;
40 % of the citizen of Berlin endorse a reduced flying operation;
22 % are for the immediate closing of this airport.

Excitingly to be observed, like democracy is arranged and we are part of it. But we do not want to permit that our politicians are governing "from above" and the people are encouraged in the statement: "They intend to make the decision and have it their own way without the opinion of the people that elected them in the first place".

Since our Governing Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit, announced not to follow the result of a successful popular referendum in the sense of the initiators, that it would for him only be a recommendation (mark: a popular referendum replaces a resolution of the House of Representatives) we decided,

  • to point out ways, which make it possible to keep this airport open and operate economically;

  • to consider appropriately the environmental and noise protection need as well as safety interests of the adjacent residents and group of people who is willing to close up the airport;

  • in case that the senate of Berlin, in particular the mayor, Klaus Wowereit, keep closing the airport Tempelhof, we are going to enforce a further popular referendum for new elections or to pronounce the distrust of the people against the mayor.
